My Elli turned seven this past Saturday and as I do every birthday I wrote her a letter and I’m sharing it here. There’s also pictures of her birthday weekend and some of her birthday photo shoot we did at the end so don’t miss those!
We have been celebrating your seventh birthday this weekend. Seven years ago you made me a mommy for the very first time. You were such a tiny little thing at 6 lbs 7 oz. I remember seeing and holding you for the first time and thinking you were the most beautiful person I’d ever met. Seven years later and you are even more beautiful today. I remember seeing the look on your daddy’s face when he looked at you. That first look of love is something I will never forget. You changed our lives forever.
I don’t say this lightly, Elli Bean, but you are so amazing. You are so many things that I wish I could be. You are considerate, compassionate, kind, the best big sister, loving, bold, creative, imaginative, sassy, silly, smart, and you have a smile that can light up a room. You are getting to an age where we are starting to have truly awesome conversations about the world, life, the bible, Jesus, our family. You are filled with curiosity and wonder at the world around you and have such a deep seated understanding that is so rare. You bring out a sense of wonder and awe that I didn’t know existed in myself.
And you are a little artist. Always coloring or drawing. Always creating something new. You could spend all day coloring if your momma would only let you. But I’m terribly mean and make you eat. When we ask you what you want to be when you grow up you say “a ninja artist of course!” If we get you some ninja training I think ninja artist is a very real possibility for your future.
This year all you asked for for your birthday was to get your ears pierced, a green cake that was chocolate and a ninja turtles birthday party. We took you to Buffalo Wild Wings at your request and Toys-R-Us to pick out a toy. You chose a Twilight Sparkle doll. Oh! And then Aubrey wouldn’t leave the store until she had picked you out a gift. She didn’t even make it to the cash register before she gave it to you. It was an adorable Hello Kitty umbrella. It was one of the sweetest moments to watch unfold. You both are the best sisters and are always so thoughtful of each other. We all had a wonderful weekend celebrating you together as a family.
Elli, I am so thankful for your little free spirit and the specialness it brings to our family.
We love you so so much Elli Bean.
Love, your mommy
